2005年夏天，中国地质博物馆中发现了3个神秘的标本箱，里面是远古的陶器，上面有一些奇怪的编号，中国地质博物馆由此展开调查。
正是这个偶然发现揭开了20世纪中国地质科学史上一段尘封的精彩传奇。这段历史与一个瑞典地质科学家有关，他的名字叫安特生。
1914年，安特生应邀来到中国，逐渐转向生物化石研究和考古发掘。周口店“北京人”考古发掘大幕的揭开，震惊世界的“仰韶文化”的发现，都与安特生紧密相连。安特生成为踏入中国现代考古领域的第一人。
1925年，中国和瑞典签订协议，同意安特生把河南仰韶发掘的大约3万件未经修复的陶器和陶片运回瑞典研究。同时规定，研究后一半陶器和陶片归还中国，另一半留在瑞典。据记载，安特生从1927年开始到1936年共分7批陆续退不字仰韶文物，但*这些文物的绝大多数却不见了踪影，留下了许多难解之谜。
