德华与曼薇新婚，管家琴表姐和仆人告知曼薇所住大宅每晚总有女人悲泣和脚步声，声音来自德华前妻雁玲的房间，曼薇不相信有鬼魂出现。很快曼薇发觉仆人刻意避开她，琴表姐更不断说是雁玲鬼魂作崇，曼薇问德华，始知道原来雁玲在与德华的一次激烈争吵中突然死去，德华手足无措，琴表姐于是动手把雁玲尸体沉下湖底。曼薇无端失踪，众人相信她已死去。德华辗转难眠，一晚上他惊见仆人阿娟倒卧血泊中，原来琴表姐爱德华不遂，便串通司机阿泉制造种种事端，阿娟无辜受害。此时曼薇突然带同探长出现，说出她其实假装死去，好能调查事情真相；琴表姐知道事败，服毒自杀。大宅从此回复宁静祥和。
